Eagle Shelf is a local-first app for cataloging physical books you own.

Summary

Information Eagle Shelf Handles

Eagle Shelf may handle the following information as part of normal use:

Camera Access

Eagle Shelf requests camera access only for user-initiated book entry workflows:

If camera access is unavailable or denied, you can still use manual entry.

Photo Selection

Instead of using the camera, you may choose an existing photo from your library — for example, a photo of a barcode or a copyright page — using the system photo picker.

OCR

Eagle Shelf may use on-device OCR to recognize text from a photographed copyright page when you choose that workflow.

OCR is used to help extract edition-related details from the page you capture.

Metadata Lookup

When you choose metadata lookup after entering or scanning an ISBN, Eagle Shelf sends that ISBN to Open Library (openlibrary.org) to retrieve edition details such as title, author, publisher, and year. If Open Library has no match, it may also query Google Books (googleapis.com). Only the ISBN is sent — never your library, your notes, or any account or identifying information, because Eagle Shelf has no account.

Eagle Shelf keeps only these bibliographic facts. It does not fetch, display, cache, or store book cover images, snippets, descriptions, or full text from these services.

This lookup is optional and happens only when you start it. If it is unavailable or does not return useful results, you can continue with manual entry. Open Library and Google Books are independent services; their own handling of requests is governed by their respective privacy policies.

Local Storage

Your library data is stored locally on your device.

Based on the current product behavior, Eagle Shelf does not require:

Backups, Imports, and Exports

Backups, imports, and exports are user-controlled files.

Data Sale

Eagle Shelf does not sell your personal data.
